stories of succession
Stories of Succession (Higgins Art Gallery, February - March 2026 ) - solo exhibition that examines the ongoing relationship between humans and nature by contrasting natural and built landscapes, particularly how they have changed throughout history. The work is interested in ecological succession, a term used to describe the natural process in which communities of plants, animals, and other organisms change over time. Succession also plays with its double meaning, defined as the orderly passage of power, assets, or other property from one entity to another, pointing to the role of colonial power, capital gain, and the commodification of our natural resources in our current ecological crisis. By playing with time and space, these drawings examine our complex histories that inform climate change, habitat loss, and ecocide, particularly within the local context of Cape Cod as well as the broader Northeastern United States.
